In 2015 Congress sent to Obama a health-care bill revising Obamacare (which was constructed by Dr. Price who is now head of HHS) and, of course, he vetoed it. It was a good bill and met all the requirements of a universal health care bill for all Americans.
Okay, fast forward to now. Paul Ryan has received over half a million dollars in “donations” from insurance companies. Mitch McConnell has received a million and a half dollars from insurance companies. This is public knowledge if you’d care to check it. So, what happens? Ryan takes Dr. Price’s health bill and starts dumping part of Obama’s disastrous Obamacare into the health bill which was favorable to insurance companies.
We don’t know what Ryan’s agenda is, but behind that boyish smile, he is NOT a friend of President Trump. During the campaign when Trump went to Ryan’s home state of WI, Ryan refused to show up with him.
Do not blame the “Freedom Caucus” Republican’s stand against Ryan’s bill. They were right to fight against it. All they had to do was re-submit Dr. Price’s plan. But Ryan took it upon himself to louse it up and it was a lousy bill. Yet, even if it was a bad bill, Ryan should have told the President early on that he didn’t have the votes to pass it. The fact that the bill had to be pulled is on Ryan. President Trump’s approval numbers are up and the public doesn’t blame him, as they shouldn’t, for the embarrassing failure of the republicans to get anything done. The House and the Senate needs new leadership to match the agenda that President Trump promised the American people. It is those promises that got him elected. He is doing all he can, but he is doing it ALONE.
Which brings up the question: If the republicans had EIGHT years to prepare a bill that would pass why wasn’t one on Trump’s desk when he took office? And why does it have to be in “three phases?” Well, for one reason, Congress just doesn’t like to work. They only “work” three days a week now, and of course this month they have to take two weeks for the “Easter Recess” (Recess – sounds like a bunch of kindergartners, doesn’t it?) And then they have the August recess and, of course they have to take off November and December for Thanksgiving and Christmas “recess.”
The answer to all this mess is this: the establishment Republicans really wanted Hillary Clinton to win the election. Yes, her election would have finished Obama’s job of destroying America, but it would have kept the boat from being rocked and the lucrative funds would keep pouring into hacks like Ryan, McConnell and 99% of congress.
I well remember seeing Ryan and McConnell walking side by side out of the capitol at Trump’s inauguration. I told my wife, “You know what they are saying to each other?” And she said, “What?” and I answered, “They’re saying, ‘What the hell do we do now?’”
Now we know what they can do – Nothing!
