Someone asked me about my impression of President Trump’s speech before Congress. I watched it all the way through and then I watched the “pundit’s analysis” of it after he had finished. I was struck by the comparison with what we had been hearing from Barack Obama for eight years (and he went somewhere on Air Force One and made a speech almost every day). Obama could not hide his arrogance and self-aggrandizement. His speeches were composed mostly of “I’s” And he spoke as if he was the Grand Master and we were ignorant children who needed to be put in our place. (That is, we were not allowed to sit at the big folk’s table.)
By contrast, President Trump was humble, but firm in his commitment to all Americans, not just those of us who voted him into office. I was amazed that the pundits were so shocked at the presidential quality of that speech. I really believe that they, and the democrats, were seeing the real Donald Trump for the first time. Those of us who followed him from the time he came down the Trump Tower escalator and through the campaign, had seen the real man all along. I wasn’t surprised at all. He told us for a year and a half what he was going to do. Standing before Congress, he just repeated what we had heard and believed for all this time. I think the critics and the democrats really thought that what they had been seeing on NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and reading in The New York Times and the Washington Post was the truth. Hillary had it made. She couldn’t lose. She was unbeatable. Trump’s supporters were “deplorable.” They believed the media propaganda that portrayed Trump as a light-weight, who wasn’t for real, and was just a phony looking for glory.
They were wrong. The American people spoke at the ballot box. And in that congressional chamber, I think the democrats showed America what assholes most of them really are. Donald Trump, the President of the Free World, praised a gallant woman who had lost her husband in battle just a short time earlier. And HE led the applause for her, which thundered throughout that hall. The callous democrats wouldn’t even stand for that tribute to a fallen hero and his widow. And they tell us THEY are the “compassionate ones” – they are the ones who really “care.” Bullshit! The American public isn’t buying the democrat snake oil anymore. I think that what we saw and heard Tuesday night was the death knell for the Democrat Party. They have lied to us for my lifetime (and I am an OLD fart) but now we have an honest, trustworthy, true American as President. A man who loves this country and who owes nobody anything. If he can get the Republicans in congress off their asses, he WILL make America Great Again. Won’t that be wonderful?
