I find it ironic that the Bushes are “sitting out this election.” Those are George’s words. Maybe I’ve forgotten something. I’m getting old so perhaps Alzheimer’s has set in. But it is my recollection that Jeb Bush, the “establishment’s” pick for nomination, didn’t get very far with the people of the U.S. who are sick of the same old Republicans. And the former two Bushes weren’t the snappiest turtles in the pond. The first one promised “No MORE taxes!” and then immediately raised taxes. The second one used an attack by Saudi terrorists as an excuse to invade Iraq and that led to Afghanistan and we’ve now been at war almost as long as Vietnam.
Personally, I’m not losing any sleep over the Bushes sitting out the election. In fact, I think this might be the best thing that Donald Trump could hope for. I do think it is amazing arrogance that George Bush would think that ANYONE cared whether he took part in the election or not. I also heard that John Kerry may also sit out the election. Well, he has done such a great job negotiating a deal with Iran that will guarantee them the atomic bomb, I’m not convinced that his absence will be missed either. However, to his credit, he did serve (4 months) in Vietnam and did shoot a VC soldier (who was already dead) and he did come home and paraded with the lovely Jane Fonda in the war protests, even throwing his medals (the fake ones) over the White House fence. Oh, yeah. He also testified before Congress that our troops were committing atrocities, while the war was still going on. What a nice guy! I don’t think that contributed to our returning Vets being spit on and called baby killers, do you?
I hadn’t considered going to the Republican Convention, but since the Bushes and Kerry won’t be there, I might change my mind. You want to go with me? Nah…wait a minute. It just occurred to me that it is going to be in Cleveland. CLEVELAND? Forget that I even brought up the subject.
