George Will says that if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination for President it will “be the end of the conservative movement in America.” (George Will, if you don’t read the newpaper, is that stuffy, ivy-covered old guy who uses words like ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’ and used to make sense, but he has grown senile.)
Well, George, let’s see what your so-called “conservative movement” has done for us lately. George thinks establishment Republicans like Jeb Bush are conservative. So my question for George is: Since when have the Republicans really been conservative? Certainly not in the last twenty years. Well, they didn’t have the power in congress, remember? That was their excuse. So the voters have given the Republicans the entire majority in Congress, and in their latest “conservative” move they approved a budget that funded Planned Parenthood with tax payer money (so that PP can go on dissecting live babies), funded Obama care, and approved profligate spending across the board – BUT they got the tax on medical devices removed for two FULL years. Wow! I gotta tell ya, George, if that’s the best your bud Paul Ryan and the “conservatives” can do, maybe it is time to change whatever you wish to call the current crop of politicians and have a new designation of “conservative.” If they walk like a Liberal, and talk like a Liberal and vote like Liberals…I’m just sayin’…
Of course, George lives in that cesspool that is DC so he gets to go to all the parties and visit his frat brothers at the Harvard Club and sip Napoleon Brandy and discuss esoteric politics. So, in my opinion, as far as the American populace goes, good ol’ George has lost all perspective of what a real conservative is. Obviously, since he favors the establishment republicans I would like for him to go further – show us the difference between the current crop of republicans and democrats. When Republicans control both houses of Congress, and yet they disregard the overwhelming desires of the public, and grant a Democrat President everything he asks for, why bother to call them conservatives? And if they are what George thinks of as conservatives, then we don’t need conservatives anymore.
So it’s okay if Donald Trump wins the nomination, George. You can call him by any name, if he wins that and the Presidency. And that should tell you what America thinks not only of so-called “conservatives” but also of you, George. BTW, Merry Christmas!
