In light of the Supreme Court’s recent decisions supporting the drive toward socialism in our country, this 4th of July takes on a special significance. Socialism has been tried all over the world, including attempts to implement it in this country since the 1920s. It has never worked. The best example is the Soviet Union where it prevailed for seventy years – and then collapsed under its own weight of bureaucracy.
But they never give up. Always it is the elites, those who are not affected by the hardships on the people, who think, “This time we know better, we’ll make it work.” It never has and never can because it takes away the most basic of human rights – the right of free will.
The founders of this nation knew that. And that is why they so carefully constructed our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. They had seen socialism fail, as it is failing today in almost every country in Europe. In our country, the current crop of politicians are either impotent or stupid or uninformed or all three. Just in the last seven years our country has turned away from the values of a Republic and soared toward socialism. And with that we have seen our God given freedoms slowly, one by one, being taken away and put in the hands of a government that has grown exponentially during this period. Remember please, our “rights” were given to us by God, and no government is entitled to change those.
We used to think, “It can’t happen here.” But we were wrong. It can, and socialism, although it is supported by a minority of Americans, is a vocal minority while the rest of us remain silent. Our country, undeniably is moving steadily in that direction. The moral and spiritual values of our nation’s Founders have been ignored and America is slowly slipping into becoming another France where “austerity riots” are common. Where workers only put in a three hour day and a four day week and have two or three months of vacation. America was born with a strong work ethic, but that has been replaced by “social justice.” It is not enough anymore just to have the freedom to become anything you desire, now it is a “right” to be granted to those who demand it from a nanny government.
This 4th of July, may I suggest that you gather with friends of a like conservative mind, and read aloud the Declaration of Independence. Those words were meant to lead our nation on a path away from the socialist monarchies that prevailed then, and now, across much of the globe. It may be too late to save the great experiment of democracy that our Founders wanted for us. But a concerted effort by those who believe in freedom above all else, may yet give us back our country.
