I can’t think of anything prettier than Atlanta in the spring. The dogwoods are white as snow, the azaleas are all colors, the forthisia is yellow, and the trees are as green with new leaves as they will ever be. It is hard for me to understand why anyone can just take a look around, no matter where you live, when spring brings out new life and not believe that there is a “Higher Power” than mere human beings. As,I have said before, man can plant a tree, but only God can make a tree. And, if the word “God” offends you, you can call “it” anything you like – it doesn’t matter. There is a force in the universe that is stronger than man. You can call it “nature” if you like, or “karma” or “Fred” or “Sally,” it makes no difference. But, by whatever name, there is a “something” that is bigger than man.
And, in my opinion, it is arrogant for man to think that he is the ultimate force. If anybody tried to make a Super Human it was Adolf Hitler, and he failed and caused horrible atrocities in the act. However, I readily admit that man has “free will” and can make his or her own decisions. We call those “choices.” As you get older, and look back on your life, how many good choices have you made? And, how many bad? The ratio for most of us is not that good. And, yes, bad things happen to good people, we all know that. We don’t know why, do we? We all have suffered hurts that we thought were unfair. Many times those things are the result of man making bad decisions. Sometimes there seems no reason. That is; no reason that we can “see” or understand. It is hard, I know, to accept that what happens is “fate.” But, I believe that all things, unless they are the result of a man’s bad choice, are part of a grand scheme for life on earth.
So, what do we do? In my case, I humbly ask that Higher Power for guidance when it comes to choices. And I do that because from experience, I know that when I have forced my own will on decisions, invariable (and it make take years) eventually I will pay, in some way, for my bad choices.
It is up to you. But, as I look out at new life springing up everywhere, I choose to believer that there is a power greater than man’s will. And, if I allow it to guide me in my decisions, I will live a more peaceful and productive life for whatever time I have left on this earth. The choice is yours.
