Just shut up!

I really don’t have time for this – I am deeply involved with mechanically preparing “Tropical Rage” for digital publishing on 30 April on Amazon. But something I read prompts me to try one more time to reason with you “children” authors.

I’m repeating myself when I advise you, DO NOT GET INTO ARGUMENTS WITH YOUR CRITICS! I just read a comment from an author to a short criticism of his novel. The comment was FOUR times longer than the critic’s review!

I am a writer. By choice I have placed myself “out there” before the public with my work. Some people love it and me, and some people hate it and me. But I made the choice and it serves absolutely no purpose, other than to negatively influence others, for an author to start an argument with a reader.

I admit that sometimes I am puzzled by the criticism (some of it downright harsh and mean) but I never allow myself to become emotionally involved. I reserve the right to disagree with a critic, but I would never put that in writing or give a rebuttal. People who criticise my novels are not the “enemy,” they are just people who disagree with my opinion of my work.

Believe me, it is not only non-productive to re-butt a bad review of your book it brings negative attention to your work. Remember, you are writing for the 4 and 5 star readers. When it comes to the 2 and 1 star reviews – just shut up and forget them.
