Hear my Story!

I once had a nice man ask me how I would want people to remember my humble written efforts in fiction. At the risk of being highly immodest and having a super ego I had a ready answer because I have never felt that I am an exceptional writer.

I told him that, if anyone remember anything I had written, I would hope that I would be recalled as a good “story teller.”

Now, if you think that writer and story teller are synonymous, you are wrong. There are really great wordsmiths who write with imagination and eloquence I could never hope to match. I admire them and envy their talent. I wish I could write one sentence as good as they do. That is impossible, God did not give me that talent.

So I write the only way I can. I try to tell a story which seems plausible, with characters that readers can identify with and can “pull” for in their tribulations. One of the most appreciated reviews for my novel “Tropical Knights” made my day.

Great read. Mr. Beckman weaves a wonderful wonderful story as if he was sitting on the beach spinning it for you in person.

That, my friend, is exactly what I shoot for when writing fiction. If I can make readers feel that I am personally telling them a story, then I have accomplished all I desire. And that is what I will continue to do, as long as there are readers who want to “hear” a good story, even if it is on a written page.
