Random? Or Providence?

Do you think that the everyday events in your life are just random? Do you believe that there are such things as coincidences? Or do you have a vague notion that perhaps things happen for a reason and that your life really has a grand plan that will play out as it is supposed to, if you let it? Of course, the human brain has willpower. We can, if we choose, do things that will alter or change direction of our lives. Perhaps we do those things that hurt us or others unconsciously, or maybe we have some desire that even we don’t recognize to do harm to ourselves.

The human mind has great power and it can be directed by ourselves to do things that are not in our own best interests. We can drive drunk. We can play with fire. We can take off our clothes and jump into icy water and freeze to death. Or, we can volunteer at a hospital or the Salvation Army. We can plant flowers. We can be our brother’s keeper. We can do unto others as we would want them to do unto us.

I was born a willful person with drive and determination. But I had no faith as a foundation for all that “push.” And I pushed myself into a house of cards that finally tumbled down upon me and took others with me. It was only when I had accepted that there was a higher power than myself that my life began to change. Turning your life over to an unseen and somewhat mystical force is hard to do. And scary. But I challenge you to just take a look around you. Do you think that something as marvelously complex as the human brain and body just “happened?” That a fish just suddenly became a man?

Do you think that seasons change and lovers come and go randomly? Or is it possible that if you allow a higher power to direct your life that you might find out in the long run, that those things that happened to you, happened for a purpose?

What I have learned through many years of living is this: The bad and harmful things that have occurred in my life, I have done to myself. Sometimes I have placed myself in a position where the acts of others could harm me –BUT I made the choice either knowingly or subconsciously to be in that position. The good and positive things took place because there is a higher power which does want the best for me – if I will allow it to point me in the right direction. I would not be so bold as to advise you on how to run your life. But it works for me.

Now let me get this straight. There’s an invisible man in the sky who sees everything we do? And he has a lake of fire? And he NEEDS MONEY?
