Come on In! You are Welcome!

Remember the old comedian’s lament when he was getting no audience response from his lame jokes? “I know you’re out there, I hear you breathing.” I’m getting that feeling. I know that there are a few of you out there who read this blog and I am honored by that, not to mention humbled.

However, I would prefer for this to be a dialog, with some give and take. It gets sort of lonesome just spouting off my thoughts and feelings. I am not a member of a “writer’s group,” are you? I have been in writing classes but in those cases those of us who had written something just read it and then it was critiqued by the others. Since I was being criticized by people whom I knew were no more skilled than I am the experience was not very satisfying.

I would like for you to be a participant in this blog. You will have to register and set up a password, but I won’t know what that is and even if I did my personal ethics prevents me from disclosing that information.

I do know that most writers are, like myself – best described as “loners.” We are, for the most part, shy and private people. I think those attributes may be what it is that makes us writers. But I would hope that whether you are a beginner or an experienced author you would exchange ideas with me and others by way of this blog.

Nobody is going to criticize you for your comments. What we would have could be an exchange of ideas, tips on how we do our work, and a general discussion of what works and what doesn’t work as we scribble our little stories. We could discuss which successful authors we admire and what we gain from reading them. What are you reading now, and why are you reading it?

I am not interested in gossip. Nor am I into wasting time when we could be writing with non-writing topics. But it would be nice to know that you are out there “because I can hear you breathing.”

I could put a “forum” on my book web site but have you noticed—most of those are just chatter from people who are pretend writers and not really serious about their work. I don’t participate in those things myself so a “forum” is not the answer. There are plenty of those around if you just want to piss and moan because nobody will buy your essay and you are not getting big publishing companies recruiting you with huge cash retainers.

So take the plunge. Register for this blog and log in and ask your question or make your comments and I will not only respond but I will be very pleased to have you on board. I’m sure I can learn from this experience, and perhaps you will also.
