My latest adventure/mystery novel “Tropical Daze” is now available on Amazon.com. My results with Barnes & Noble’s “Nook” have been so discouraging I am not posting it on their site, unless someone specifically requests it.
I have two comments which I think are pertinent. You will be the judge of that: Many people have asked me, “Why can’t I get a hard copy of your books?” The answer is simple. Let’s say, for example, that I charged you ten dollars for a book and had them in bookstores, I would make 0.57 per book sold. That’s right, publishing it hard cover would make a lot of money for the publisher and the book store, but you would be out ten bucks and I would pocket $0.57. I don’t think that is a good deal for either of us.
Have you checked the book stores recently? Sticker shock might get you if you haven’t been book shopping lately. It is not surprising to see that hard cover books are now $25 and $30 and some are even higher. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love to read (and the “feel” of a hard cover book is similar to the sensation of “new car smell”) my budget just won’t allow books that expensive. It would really be a bummer if I paid $30 for a book, read a few pages, and decided it was not my cup of tea. The low price of eBooks makes “taking a chance” a lot more inexpensive.
The old fashioned method of publishing just doesn’t make sense anymore. The eBook market share is now about 70% and going up. Amazon now has 100 million titles in their eBook library. eBooks are cheaper and you don’t have to leave your house to get reading material late on a Sunday night. I’d rather write good books that you can download for less than $5 and I make a couple of bux for my year of work.
I want to thank those of you who took time to send me comments and suggestions for this novel. I wanted to give you what you wanted to read, and I think you will be pleased.
Everything possible has been done to prevent errors in “Tropical Daze” including professional editing but inevitably some misspellings and “wrong” words creep in. The very process of formatting an eBook can induce some errors even if the manuscript is perfect. If you purchase of copy of “Tropical Daze” and discover errors please leave a comment here on the blog and a corrected edition will be uploaded.
There is a link to “Tropical Daze” on the menu of this web site. I hope you will read the sample chapters and if you like it, download it and enjoy it. Thanks for your continued support.
p.s. If you want to get in on the beginning of this adventure series, “Tropical Knights” is still available on Amazon and Nook.
