“Sonny” My Hero

I had so much response to my blog “My Hero” that I thought you might like to see a picture of “Sonny” (Lt. George Edward Boeckmann) which was taken on the flight line shortly before he died on 3 August 1944. When I look at this picture I see not a 20 year old boy, but a MAN noticeably aged by war. It has that affect on everyone who serves in the military.

To those of you who contacted me by email with such heroic thoughts and messages, I am touched and humbled. I know that if there is a heaven, Sonny also would modestly thank you for your appreciation for his service. I know he loved this country so much that he gladly served it – and if it cost him his life, it was for a noble cause.
